Here Comes Peter Cottontail is a 1971 television special based on a book entitled "The Easter Bunny that Overslept" by Priscilla and Otto Friedrich. The story follows a young Peter Cottontail (Casey Kasem) who yearns to be the Chief Easter Bunny of April Valley. As Chief Bunny, Peter Cotton would be entirely responsible for the distribution of chocolate candy and colored eggs. Despite Peter Cottontail's propensity for tall tales, Colonel Wellington B Bunny (Danny Kaye) passes the mantle of bunny power to him. Q. Irontail (Vincent Price), Peter's arch rival, is not happy with the decision, however, and challenges Peter to an Easter candy delivery competition. Peter immediately accepts. To ensure his victory, Irontail drugs Peter with magical gum that makes him sleep through his alarm and miss delivering Easter candy. Irontail wins the competition and begins changing laws in April Valley that are destined to wreak havoc on Easter. Dejected, Peter leaves April Valley in shame. All is not lost, however, as Peter meets Seymour S. Sassafras (Danny Kaye) and the two hatch a plot to win back April Valley. Will their plan succeed? Fans of stop-motion animation and children's fairy tales will enjoy this new twist on an old tale.
