Here I Stand: Martin Luther is a documentary about one of the most important figures in the history of Christianity. This film covers the length of Luther's life in an attempt to explain his revolutionary behavior and foundational impact on modern Christianity. The film follows Martin Luther from his life as a peasant to a devoutly religious thinker. Indeed, Here I Stand explores in detail his two essential revelations that attempted to bring the average believer closer to God. Luther argued, first, that salvation came through faith and not good works. Second, he made the case that the ultimate spiritual authority is the Bible and not the institution of the church. Today, these are not particularly controversial, but, in Luther's time, he was branded a heretic. The film argues that, even though these ideas were not necessarily originally his, Luther popularized them inspiring a revolution in Christian themselves.
