Hero at Large is a 1980 romantic comedy directed by Martin Davidson. Steve Nichols (John Ritter) struggles to find work as an actor, but isn't ready to give up on his dreams. Steve feels lucky to find some temporary work wearing a promotional costume for Captain Avenger. While still wearing his superhero outfit after work, Steve unexpectedly stumbles across a robbery at a corner grocery store. Without thinking, Steve pulls off his coat and manages to singlehandedly prevent the robbery. The grateful witnesses believe they've met a real superhero. Finally feeling as if he's fulfilling his idealistic dreams, Steve decides to pursue his newfound path as a superhero instead of focusing on acting. Although he's supported by his girlfriend Jolene (Anne Archer), Steve discovers that being a superhero has plenty of disadvantages, dangers and downsides. When Steve is hired by a slightly sleazy mayor (Leonard Harris), his public image suddenly shifts, and Steve finds himself wondering if Captain Avenger is really who he wants to be.moreless
