H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds is the 2005 direct-to-video adaptation of the venerable science fiction author's literary classic of the same name, edited, co-executive produced, co-written and directed by David Michael Latt. It is the occasion of astronomer George Herbert's (C. Thomas Howell, The Hitcher, E.T.) anniversary but he unexpectedly gets a call from his boss about mysterious falling comets. So, George stays behind while his wife Felicity (Tinarie Van Wyk-Loots) and son Alex (Dashiell Howell) head off to Washington. Unfortunately, the comets which seem to be dropping out of the sky are in fact alien invaders who want to wipe the human race out. They use laser beams which turn people into toast, toxic green gas and some sort of caustic acid which melts people. The entire earth is under attack, and conventional weapons and bullets are useless against them. Can a way be found to stop them before they kill us all?
