Hi Di Ho is a classic black-and-white musical, featuring Cab Calloway and his infamous jive band from the Cotton Club in New York. The film opens in 1947, Harlem, where Cab Calloway (playing himself) prepares for his new gig at the Brass Hat Club, the city's newest jazz bar. Cab's manager Nettie (Ida James) picks up the band leader, which doesn't sit well with his jealous girlfriend, Minnie (Jeni Le Gon). After a watching a few onstage intimacies between her boyfriend and his manager, Minnie violently confronts Cab, who in return, retaliates and breaks off the relationship. Minnie now wants some payback. She hires a rival club owner named Boss Mason (George Wiltshire) to kill her ex-boyfriend, but Minnie gets cold feet on the night of the assassination. As one of Mason's goons (William Campbell) takes aim at Cab during a show, Minnie takes the bullet. Cab must now decide to either reconcile with his ex or keep his options open. Throughout out the film, Cab and his band play duets with the (Peters Sisters) and play classic jazz hits, including "Hey, Now!," "St. James Infirmary Blues" and "Bop Bop."moreless
