The Hidden Fortress is a 1958 action adventure film directed by Akira Kurosawa. Based in feudal Japan, the film follows two money hungry peasants, Tahei (Minoru Chiaki ) and Matashichi (Kamatari Fujiwara), who encounter the remaining members of a vanquished tribe on their way home from a failed business opportunity. When Tahei and Matashichi discover General Rokurota Makabe (Takashi Shimura) and Princess Yuki (Misa Uehara) hiding in the ruins of an old fortress, they see an opportunity to make a profit. General Makabe offers Tahei and Matashichi a huge some of gold if they will escort them into allied territory so that they can rebuild their tattered forces. The duo eagerly agree, but soon find themselves over their heads when their bumbling creates trouble on their journey. Joined by a freed slave (Toshiko Higuchi ), the group must endure incredible hardship as General Makabe uses his insight and wisdom to evade capture and make it to the promised land.
