Hitman Hart: Wrestling With Shadows is a documentary of Bret Hart, a star in the World Wrestling Federation. It was written and directed by Paul Jay, and released in 1998, This film documents Hart's last two years with the WWF from 1996 to 1997, including his 1997 WWF championship. The film begins in March of 1996, when Hart's contract is about expire. He is thinking about leaving the WWF, and joining World Championship Wrestling. Hart is disillusioned with the WWF's marketing strategy, which emphasizes anti-heroes and sex instead of traditional heroic characters. The WWF is chaired by Vince McMahon, whom Hart sees as a father figure. The WCW is run by Ted Turner, who is offering Hart a contract worth much more than the one he has with WWF. Hart experiences conflicts with McMahon regarding the outcome of his final match in the WWF with Shawn Michaels. Hart and Michaels have a bitter rivalry in real life, which leads to an unexpected outcome inside the ring.moreless
