Home is an intriguing 2006 documentary that explores the unique place New York City holds in the imagination of its residents, natives and visitors. Director Dawn Scibilia interviews a variety of famous and ordinary citizens to discuss what the city means to them, and how it has changed over the years. Woody Allen bemoans the loss of the middle class in Manhattan, while writer Fran Leibowitz comments on the suburbanization of the America's most famous city. Europeans like Liam Neeson, Alfred Molina and Frank McCourt comment on their dream of the city versus the day-to-day reality. Alan Cooke, a recent transplant from Ireland as well as the film's writer, evokes his homeland as well as what home means. The movie also captures gorgeous images from the city's architecture, both the famous landmarks and the little-known hidden treasures. Collectively, the words and images draw a portrait of unique place that calls an eclectic and impressive variety of personalities to call it home.moreless
