Home on the Prairie is a romantic crime story set in the old wild west. The scene is set as a crooked rancher Belknap (Walter Miller) discovers his herd is infected with hoof and mouth disease. He tries to sell them as soon as possible to avoid losing money, but Gene Autry (as himself) discovers the infection and quarantines all the herds. In an attempt to get around the quarantine, Belknap changes the brand name on the animals in his herd to one that is considered healthy. Autry knows there are still infected animals out there and sets out to find them. However, he loses his job over it and spends the rest of the film trying to redeem himself and catch the villains. Smiley Burnette co-stars as Frog Millhouse and June Storey performs as Martha Wheeler. Home on the Prairie was released in 1939 and was directed by Jack Townley.
