Homeboy is a 1988 romantic sport drama directed by Michael Seresen and written and starred in by Mickey Rourke. In the film, Johnny Walker (Mickey Rourke) is a cowboy and a professional boxer. He is also shy, foolish and a bit old to still be competing in the ring. Wesley Pendergrass (Christopher Walkin) is Johnny's promoter and good friend. The friendship between the two men usually favors Wesley. Johnny goes along with pretty much anything Wesley wants because he idolizes him. Wesley goes as far as to withhold information from Johnny about his health, in order to keep him fighting in the ring. When Johnny meets Ruby (Debra Feuer), a carnival owner, he instantly falls in love with her. Ruby cares about Johnny too, but she cannot stand the way Wesley treats him. Ruby and Wesley both know it will come to point where Johnny will have to choose between them.
