Homegrown is a 1998 dramatic comedy starring John Lithgow, Billy Bob Thornton, and Hank Azaria in a story about a group of marijuana farmers living in Northern California who get into some sticky situations after their kingpin is murdered and they try to keep the business afloat without his help. Ryan Phillipe plays Harlan, who along with Carter (Azaria) and Jack (Thornton) lives a happy little life as a farm hand on a marijuana plantation. There boss, Malcolm (Lithgow) is a mastermind in the illegal drug world. He takes care of the business end of things, finding buyers and navigating the dangerous world of mobsters. Meanwhile, Harlan, Carter, and Jack smoke their way through the days on the farm with little real responsibility. Following Malcolm's sudden demise, the inept trio decide to try their hand at the business, only to find they're way over their heads in the rough world of drug deals.
