Homo Toxicus is a 2008 documentary from documentarian Carole Poliquin. The film explores the politics and science behind the creation of over 100,000 man-made molecules since World War II. Poliquin shows that numerous tons of these chemicals are released into the environment on a daily basis and goes on to document the negative impact that these chemicals have on mammals, fish, plants, and birds, as well as their natural habitats. Poliquin points out that many of these chemicals are in everyday products used by humans, yet they have never been tested for their impact on the human body or the potential side-effects they may cause. Accordingly, she provides evidence that these chemicals may be impacting human DNA, and at least 247 toxic substances have been found in newborns who have received no exposure to such chemicals other than through their mothers. The film also suggests the presence of a link between chemical exposure and the recent increase in health problems such as cancer, allergies, and infertility.moreless
