Hostile Witness is a razor-sharp courtroom drama based on a play by Jack Roffey. The story centers on Simon Crawford (Ray Milland), a successful barrister with a beautiful daughter. When his daughter is killed in a hit-and-run accident, the police are unable to track down the killer and Crawford takes it upon himself to find justice for his girl. He hires a series of private investigators and suffers a mental breakdown when they all come up empty handed. After recovering from his illness, Crawford is knocked unconscious and his house keys are stolen. He awakes the next day to discover his neighbor, Justice Matthew Gregory (Percy Marmont), has been stabbed to death. A letter from a private investigator implicating Justice Gregory in the death of Crawford's daughter is found in Crawford's home and the police charge Simon with the murder. The real fight begins in the courtroom as Crawford and his assistant, Sheila Larkin (Sylvia Sims), struggle to prove his innocence and uncover the truth behind his daughter's death.moreless
