2010
Rating:

Hot Tub Time Machine is about a group of friends who are hurled back in time by means of a magical hot tub. The story begins in 2010 with Adam, Jacob, and Nick taking Lou to their old ski resort getaway following what they believe to be a suicide attempt. The friends party in the resort hot tub while drinking a Russian energy drink called Chernobyl. The Chernobyl spills in the hot tub control panel, turning the hot tub into a time machine and sending the gang back to 1986. They realize that they have been sent back to one of the most important times in their personal history after noticing all the staples of the 1980s.. They realize they can each alter their future and maybe get their lives back on track.

Metacritic Score

  • 100

The New York Times A.O. Scott

The movie itself is a nonstop barrage -- somewhere between a riot and an orgy -- of crude, obnoxious gags and riffs. If you are a connoisseur of sexual, scatological or just plain ...

  • 90

    Los Angeles Times Betsy Sharkey

About a billion laughs (though "Hot Tub" is not for the faint of heart or anyone even slightly concerned with what's happened to common decency these days).

  • 50

    Variety Dennis Harvey

Even by recent standards for mainstream comedy packaging, "Tub" looks dull and ugly.
