Hotel For Dogs is a 2009 American children's comedy film by director Thor Freudenthal, based on the 1971 Lois Duncan novel of the same name. Andi (Emma Roberts) and younger brother Bruce (Jake T. Austin) are modern-day streetrats, with claim to nothing and no one but one another and their lovable dog, Friday. Their aspiring rock-star foster parents, Lois (Lisa Kudrow) and Carl Scudder (Kevin Dillon) , are not as laid-back as their interesting career choice would lead one to believe, however, and they do not'and cannot'know about Friday. Keeping a dog hidden can be quite a challenge, so the two set about finding somewhere for Friday to live. When they stumble upon an abandoned hotel, it seems like the perfect solution. What starts as a temporary home for Friday turns into a proper dog hotel as the kids, along with a handful of friends, turn the hotel into what becomes every stray dog's dream shelter. Hotel for Dogs is a cute family-friendly film about family, friendship, and teamwork.moreless

Metacritic Score

  • 70

    Los Angeles Times

What it is packed with is lots of sneaking around, very cool gadgets, excellent stunts and some clever kids.

  • 60

    Variety

Ultimately warm and furry, with a wet nose buried in gross receipts.

  • 50

The New York Times Stephen Holden

Although you wouldn't want an entire movie devoted to such shenanigans, Hotel for Dogs isn't half as zany as it might have been.
