Hour of the Gun is a 1967 American Western film directed by John Sturges and starring James Garner, Jason Robards, and Robert Ryan. Based on the book Tombstone's Epitaph and a sequel to the film Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, the film continues the story of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. Earp (Garner) was once a law-abiding sheriff who quickly descended into vigilantism in order to seek revenge. Holliday (Robards) watches Earp's decline and in turn reacts to it by becoming the morality concerned man that he had not been before. Holliday's past life of gambling and lawlessness is set aside in order to maintain order in the town. Earp becomes obsessed with finding the hired goons that killed his brother, especially upon the discovery that Clanton (Ryan) was the man behind the attack. Hour of the Gun is perhaps the highest rated of any Western film depicting the lives of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday.
