House of Wax / The Mystery of the Wax Museum is a horror film that follows Professor Henry Jarrod (Vincent Price) as he pours his heart into the sculptures of his wax museum in New York. Set in 1910, Jarrod works with his business partner, Matthew Burke (Roy Roberts), to ensure the success of the museum. Burke grows somewhat critical of the project as a whole and pushes Jarrod to fashion more sculptures and exhibits to attract the public. When Jarrod does not abide by these requests, Burke makes the decision to burn down the museum in an attempt at insurance fraud. He even tries to kill Jarrod in the process, and although he survives, his body is ferociously marred by the incident. Now unable to sculpt as he did in the past due to his injuries, Jarrod must find a new way to open up another wax museum. It isn't long before one of his patrons comes to the startling conclusion that his new exhibits are merely the wax-coated bodies of Jarrod's own personal murder victims.moreless
