House on Haunted Hill is a 1959 horror film starring Vincent Price as a millionaire who throws an unusual, and deadly, party. Frederick Loren (Vincent Price) invites a group of acquaintances to an isolated mansion he has rented, where he offers them a deal: $10,000 for one night spent locked in the house. Frederick's wife, Annabelle (Carol Omhart), and the mansion's owner, Watson Pritchard (Elisha Cook), warn the guests not to accept the deal; not only is Frederick unhinged, but the house is haunted by spirits unfriendly to outsiders. The party decides to stay, but Annabelle is found hanged shortly after the doors are locked, and her ghost begins to haunt the visitors. Before the night is over, Frederick's guests will discover that not all is as it seems, and ghosts may be the least of the dangers they face. Despite its low budget, the film reportedly inspired Alfred Hitchcock to make his own thriller, "Psycho."moreless
