Housesitter is a 1992 romantic comedy by director Frank Oz, starring Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn. In the film, Steve Martin is Newton Davis, a struggling architect who completes building a dream house for himself and his longtime girlfriend, Becky (Dana Delaney), right before she refuses to marry him. Crushed, he leaves the house, for which he incurred significant debt, empty and goes away to look for work. Before leaving, however, he goes to a local restaurant for a meal, where he spills the whole sob story to waitress, and con artist, Gwen Phillips (Goldie Hawn). Gwen decides to go visit the house and, taking a liking to it, moves in. After all, with Newton in a different town, he will never know, right? So when Newton comes back to visit one day, he is shocked to find his house inhabited and Gwen pretending to be his wife! Newton is furious, at first, but that he comes to an agreement with Gwen: she will get Becky to come back to him and will furnish the house in exchange for being able to live there until then. Things do not go quite as planned, however, when sparks begin to fly between the two. Housesitter is an adorable romantic comedy with a great cast.
