How to Lose Your Lover is a comedic romance from New Line Cinema and Davis Entertainment Filmworks and was written, directed and produced by Jordan Hawley. After an earthquake strikes the glamorous city of Los Angeles, ghostwriter Owen McCabe (Paul Schneider) has decided that it is time to leave this superfluous city of dreams and start over in New York City. On his way out, he burns all of his bridges by telling people what he really thinks of them and quits his current job. With his bags packed and plane ticket booked, Own makes his way to the airport where he actually runs into the girl of his dreams Val (Jennifer Westfeldt) on a chance run-in. On a whim and to see where things might actually go, Owen postpones his big move and accelerates his courtship. For one week, Owen asks to meet Val's parents and introduces him to his best, and only, friend Allison (Poppy Montgomery). Owen puts Val to the test and takes her to a party where he knows an unethical man will undoubtedly try to seduce her. Will Val pass all of Owen's tests and if she does can Owen still find a way to shed his former life and still get out of Los Angeles?
