How to Murder Your Wife is the story of Stanley Ford (Jack Lemmon), a successful and happily unmarried cartoonist whose fun, free-wheeling life is about to change. During a bachelor party, an inebriated Stanley falls for a gorgeous, blonde Italian bombshell (Virna Lisi) when she pops out of the cake. By morning, the Italian girl has become Mrs. Ford, and Stanley calls in his lawyer, Harold Lampson (Eddie Mayehoff), to arrange for a divorce. As Ford has no cause for separation, Harold confirms that the marriage is iron-clad. Mrs. Ford starts learning English from Harold's wife, Edna (Claire Trevor), a stereotypically overbearing and conniving woman who teaches her more about American living than the language. Stanley's frustrations over his lost freedom, his wife's newfound meddlesome ways, and his incoming mother-in-law lead him to believe in only one solution - murder. Stanley finds relief in his work, creating and carrying out a plot in his cartoon strip to kill the main character's wife. When Mrs. Ford later comes up missing, police arrest Stanley for murder and put him on trial, where he doesn't claim innocence, but instead defends himself as an oppressed husband. Enjoy this fun ride through matrimony and find out whether Stanley Ford, or any husband for that matter, can get away with murder!moreless
