The Hunting Party is a action-packed Western starring Gene Hackman (The Royal Tenenbaums, The French Connection), Oliver Reed (Gladiator, Oliver!) and Candice Bergen (Murphy Brown, Miss Congeniality). The film was written by Gilbert Ralston and directed by Don Medford. Brandt Ruger (Gene Hackman) is a domineering man with little regard for anyone's opinion but his own. A frontier tycoon, he has made a solid living for himself - and his wife Melissa (Candice Bergen) - raising cattle and tending land. He believes he owns everything, including his wife who he normally objectifies. With an exuberant sense of entitlement, Brandt rarely caves to any argument. But he is metaphorically slapped in the face when his wife is kidnapped by an outlaw named Frank Calder (Oliver Reed) who holds Melissa for ransom. But Brandt faces an even greater issue when he learns Melissa would rather stay with her captor than return home.moreless
