Hurlyburly

Movie Summary

Director:
Anthony Drazan
Released:
1998
Rating:
R
Hurlyburly is a dark comedy about the dysfunctional lives and relationships of several low-level players in Hollywood. In the film, Eddie (Sean Penn) and Mickey (Kevin Spacey) are two roommates who spend most of their days drinking, drugging and talking in the Hollywood Hills. They are often joined in their long, vacuous discussions by good pals Artie (Garry Shandling) and Phil (Chazz Palminteri). Eddie and Mickey's lives are complete wrecks as both are in love with the same woman, Darlene (Robin Wright Penn), though she doesn't particularly care for either of them. Things take a turn for the worse when Artie shows up one day with a young, nubile hitchhiker named Donna (Anna Paquin). They quickly turn her already difficult life upside down. When a stripper named Bonnie (Meg Ryan) falls into their circle, she immediately gets the same treatment. Hurlyburly is a searing indictment of Hollywood and proof that behind all of the glitter lies a great deal of pain.moreless
