Rating:
PG-13
Hush is an intense 1998 psychological thriller directed by Jonathan Darby and starring Academy Award winners Jessica Lange and Gwyneth Paltrow. Young Helen (Gwyneth Paltrow) is dating a very handsome and charming man named Jackson Baring (Jonathan Schaech). After Helen gets pregnant, Jackson proposes and the couple makes plans to move form New York City to Jackson's mother Martha's (Jessica Lange) lavish Kentucky estate and horse farm. Helen initially likes Martha, but as time passes she begins to notice some disturbing behavior. It is very apparent that Martha is jealous of the relationship her son has with Helen, and makes attempts to divide the couple. As Helen's pregnancy advances, Martha's behavior gets stranger and stranger. Martha forbids Helen from speaking with Jackson's invalid grandmother Alice (Nina Fochs), and intrusively instructs Helen's obstetrician Dr. Hill (Hal Holbrook) on how to deal with the pregnancy. When Helen learns of Martha's past history by speaking with Grandma Alice, she becomes aware of how truly demented Martha is, and realizes that her life is in danger.moreless

The movie... hasn't the foggiest notion whether it's a soap opera or a horror film, and wanders around in a generic fog.
