I Am the Cheese follows Adam Farmer (Robert MacNaugton) as he flashes back to his past to unravel the mystery of his identity. Through a chance encounter, his girlfriend, Amy (Cynthia Nixon), has learned Adam may not be who he thinks he is. The 1983 film is based on the Robert Cormier novel of the same name. He begins to spy on his parents and comes across two birth certificates. Both have his name, but they have different birth dates. He confronts his father, David (Don Murray), and mother, Betty (Hope Lange). That's when he learns the family secret. Adam's real name is Paul Delmonte, and the family was forced into hiding after his father, an investigative journalist, testified against corrupt government officials. He meets regularly with Dr. Brint (Robert Wagner) and tries to make sense of his memories that have hidden deep within his subconscious mind. The film was directed by Robert Jiras.
