I Capture the Castle is a 2003 drama-romance by director Tim Fywell, based on Dodie Smith’s 1948 book of the same title. The film is about 17-year-old Cassandra Mortmain (Romola Garai), who lives with her eccentric family in an English castle of poor repair. Between her father (Bill Nighy), a writer who has not produced anything since his very successful first novel 12 years ago; her beautiful sister, Rose (Rose Byrne), who is unable to change much; and her nudist stepmother, Topaz (Tara Fitzgerald), who never gets anything done, the castle is falling to pieces in front of Cassandra’s eyes. But when their American landlord, Simon Cotton (Henry Thomas), and his brother, Neil (Marc Blucas), step onto the scene, Cassandra sees a chance of adding some much-needed change to their lives. Cassandra sets out to manipulate Simon, by making him fall in love with her, but things do not go quite as planned. I Capture the Castle is about family, love, and how far is too far when it comes to playing with people’s emotions.moreless
