I Escaped from Devil's Island is an action film about a thrilling escape from a French Guiana prison. Life on the inside of the famed prison in French Guiana is no picnic, and once inmate Lebras (Jim Brown) sees an opportunity to escape, he takes it. Together with fellows Devert (Christopher George), Jo-Jo (Richard Ely) and Dazzas (James Luisi), Lebras braves the dubious obstacle of shark infested waters to freedom, with the warden hot on the trail of the fleeing convicts the entire time. However, once they find an apparent safe haven in a small town nearby, they find their adventure is anywhere but finished. From run ins with lepers to a little fun with the native women, Lebras and the boys find that, while life on the outside is free from the brutality from being locked up, it is anything but usual. William Witney directs this Roger Corman feature, mirroring the plot of the more popular Papillon, which debuted a month later.moreless
