I Hate Valentine's Day is a 2009 romantic comedy written, directed and starred in by Nia Vardalos. The film is set in Manhattan, New York. In the film, Genevieve Gernier (Nia Vardalos) is a successful florist in the city. To avoid getting hurt by a man, Genevieve vows to never have a relationship. To achieve this goal she has established a strict dating rule; never go on more than five dates with the same man. Genevieve sticks to this rule no matter what. She believes this will prevent her from establishing a meaningful relationship with a man. In her mind, preventing a relationship from developing protects her from ever getting hurt. When restaurateur, Greg Gatlin (John Corbett), moves into her Manhattan neighborhood, she quickly fulfills her five dates. With the dates completed, Genevieve is forced to rethink her five date rule.
