PG-13
I Love You, I Love You Not is a sentimental 1996 film centered around two women who struggle to deal with antisemitism within their communities. The film is based on a well known play written by Wendy Kesselman. Billy Hopkins directs. Daisy (Claire Danes) is an introverted young girl who attends private school in Manhattan. She often hides her Judaism from her classmates, who are inclined to teasing her with taunting, prejudice remarks. Daisy turns to her grandmother Nana (Jeanne Moreau) who comforts her by recounting her own experiences with antisemitism. As it turns out, Nana's experiences vary drastically - she was sent to a concentration camp as a little girl. Daisy is then encouraged with the hope that she can overcome her insecurities. I Love You, I Love You Not also includes performances by Jude Law, James Van Der Beek, Lauren Fox, Kris Park, Julia Stiles, Emily Burkes-Nossiter, Carrie Szlasa and Natasha Wolff. Claire Danes and Jeanne Moreau have an undeniable chemistry that transcends the metaphorical border that separates reality from film. Two thumbs up!moreless
