I, the Jury is a 1982 crime film featuring Mickey Spillane's legendary detective, Mike Hammer, as he investigates the murder of a fellow detective. After learning that his best friend Jack Williams (Frederick Downs) has been killed, Detective Mike Hammer (Armand Assante) decides to avenge his death. He is assisted in his vigilante pursuit by his gorgeous secretary Velda (Laurene Landon) and Police Chief Pat Chambers (Paul Sorvino) who mostly turns a blind eye to Hammer's lawlessness. As Hammer begins to zero in on the killer, he learns that Williams' death was part of a larger conspiracy involving the CIA and the Mafia. As he becomes involved with a strange woman named Charlotte Bennett (Barbara Carrera), Hammer eventually begins to question everyone around him. In a world where the government is developing a technique to control people's minds, the hardboiled detective has a difficult time knowing who to trust and who is telling the truth.
