I Wake Up Screaming is an early example of film noir starring war-time pin-up Betty Grable in one of her few dramatic roles. The movie is a hard-boiled crime drama with the same style and grit that many in this period of cinema portray. Betty Grable plays Jill, a young woman caught in a web of murder and lies. Jill finds herself falling in love with the man, Frankie Christopher (Victor Mature), the police believe may have murdered her sister Vicki (Carol Landis). Though the evidence is mostly circumstantial, they choose to continue pursuit though the reason for this is a mystery not yet revealed. Soon enough, the detectives find fugitive Mature hiding with Grable and a mad chase begins as he tries to prove his innocence before it is too late. Little does Jill know, she may just be the key to it all. The film was originally called Hot Spot.
