In Cold Blood is a 1968 film adaptation of the classic Truman Capote book of the same name. It recounts the brutal real-life murder of the Herbert Cutter family in Holcomb, Kansas, in 1959 by two ex-convicts, Richard Hickock (Scott Wilson) and Perry Smith (Robert Blake). While in jail, a fellow prisoner tells Hickock of a large stash of money kept at Cutter's farm. Hickock decides that he will rob the place so he can start a new life in Mexico. He contacts Smith, a former cellmate, to assist him in the crime. The two drive across Kansas during the night of November 14, 1959, and enter the Cutter house while the family is sleeping. After finding out that Cutter actually didn't have any money in the home, an enraged Smith slashed the elder Cutter's throat, then murdered his wife, son and daughter. The film then follows the pair's time spent on death row, and through flashbacks, attempts to explain how these two men ended up where they did. In Cold Blood is directed by Richard Brooks who also wrote the screenplay.moreless
