In Old Caliente is a 1939 Western in which Roy Rogers, as himself, sings his way across California. Rogers has sold a herd of cattle and returned with a fortune. He passes the money on to his buddy, Carlos Vargas (Paul Marion). However, Carlos falls victim to a team of criminals who rob him and leave him for dead. One of the ranch hands, Manuel Delgado (Jack La Rue), rallies the ranchers to place the blame on a passing American wagon train. Little does anyone suspect that Delgado is actually also the head of the criminal ring. Rogers suspects the ruse and comes to the rescue of the wagon train. Having deterred the attack, he then chases the criminals down in their hideout. Carlos turns the tables again and captures Roy, pinning the blame for the whole theft on him. The double crosses and chases swirl as Rogers tries to finally bring his man to justice.
