In Search of Historic Jesus is the 1979 rendering of the familiar biblical story of Jesus of Nazareth, the carpenter who was called the Messiah of the Jewish people and the Savior of humanity. The film follows the orthodox story of Jesus (John Rubinstein), his birth to the Virgin Mary, his ministry of teaching and healing, his capture by the Romans, his crucifixion, and his resurrection. As a documentary, it mostly retells the story of the New Testament with little adaptation. There is some debate about the exact dating of the crucifixion, but the forensic scientists who give commentary on the death of Jesus do not remarkably challenge the biblical narrative. There is some discussion of the Shroud of Turin, the supposed burial cloth of Jesus, which was later exposed as a fake. Based on a top-selling book, the story collates information gained from both biblical and extra-biblical sources throughout history to come up with an accurate retelling of the story of Jesus.moreless
