In the Custody of Strangers begins with a restless teenager getting arrested and jailed following a drunken binge, and his parents face a 40-day ordeal of trying to get him out after he is charged with assault after defending himself from the hardened criminals with whom he was locked up. Martin Sheen and real-life son Emilio Estevez acted together as fictional father and son for the first time in this film.
