In the Electric Mist is a 2009 crime drama directed by Bertrand Tavemier based on the novel, In the Electric Mist of the Confederate Dead, by James Lee Burke. Detective Dave Robicheaux (Tommy Lee Jones) lives in Louisanna and wants to bring down a notorious gangster "Baby Feet" Balboa (John Goodman) who is believed to be involved in the murder of several girls in New Orleans. At the same time, Dave sees the ghosts of Confederate soldiers from the Civil War who are long dead and thinks he is losing his mind. He is also haunted by a decades old mystery involving the murder of a black man in a local swamp that went unsolved. Dave begins to suspect that the murders of the black man and the girls may be linked. Together with his partner, Rosie Gomez (Justina Muchado), the two begin to uncover crime and corruption that reaches far back into the past.
