Movie Summary

Director:
Phil Alden Robinson
Released:
1987
Rating:
PG-13
In the Mood is a 1987 romantic comedy based on a true story. Ellsworth Wisecarver (Patrick Dempsey), otherwise known as Sonny, is growing up in 1940s. Although he is only 15 years old, Sonny is a precocious heart-breaker. He seems to know just what to say to, not just girls, but also older women. When Sonny meets beautiful, broken Judy Cusimano (Talia Balsam), sparks fly between the two of them. It does not matter that Judy is already in a relationship with an abusive older man, Carlo (Tony Longo), or that Judy is six years older than Sonny. The two elope together, but between Carlo and Sonny's father (Michael Constantine) and mother (Betty Jinette), it seems their marriage is not destined to be a lasting one. As Sonny finds himself becoming an international sensation, other women come out of the woodwork to meet this unusual Lothario, including the beautiful Francine (Beverly D'Angelo).
