In the Mouth of Madness is a 1994 horror film directed by John Carpenter ("The Thing"). Insurance investigator John Trent (Sam Neill) takes an assignment from publisher Jackson Harglow (Charlton Heston). Sutter Cane (J''rgen Prochnow), a popular horror writer, has curiously vanished just days before his latest release. Trent begins his research by reading his novels but begins to suffer frightening nightmares of monsters and murder. Cane's editor, Linda Styles (Julie Carmen), reassures Trent that many readers experience the effect, and travels with him to Hobb's End, New Hampshire where they believe they will find Cane. Along the way, Linda begins to see strange sights along the way. When they finally arrive in the small town, both Trent and Linda discover disturbing parallels between the villagers and the characters in Cane's books. Their investigations will lead them deeper into the dark horror of the writer's imagination with little hope of escape.
