Independent Lens: Trudell follows the life and times of Native American poet and activist John Trudell (played by John Trudell). This documentary is an educational film that has beautiful images in it, as well as the spoken words of Trudell. Hosted by actress America Ferrera, this documentary follows the life of Trudell from the time when he was a political activist for the ethnic groups of Native Americans to when he started playing music and became an acclaimed musician. Most important though, this film focuses on his life as a Native American activist poet. Trudell is a great activist that has stuck to his morals and fought for the rights of the Native Americans through his poetry and music. He has also given many speeches about the rights of Native Americans. This documentary also includes commentary from very significant people including Wilma Mankiller, the first woman principal chief of the Cherokee Nation who spoke in honor of Trudell.
