India: Kingdom of the Tiger is a docudrama which was released in 2002. It follows the exploits of a famous English hunter, Jim Corbett. Corbett's real life story seems almost like something out of 19th century fiction. Much like the characters in those novels, he decides to go on an expedition to India. His reason for the trip is equal parts curiosity and desire for the thrill of the hunt. However, this is simply the backdrop for the main part of the story. Corbett has his adventure, and eventually retires in India. While content, it is obvious that he does miss the hunt. When word comes out of a man-eating tiger threatening a local village, it's clear what he must do. He then proceeds to struggle with both the tiger itself, and his own conception of what tigers mean to the area. The movie was initially released in the IMAX format, and the visuals quickly make this clear. It attempts to present the audience to the India that Corbett fell in love with. One sees a variety of animal life, each in a unique place within the land's ecosystem.moreless
