Indiscretion of an American Wife follows Mary Forbes (Jennifer Jones) as she attempts to break off her affair with her Italian lover. Mary fell in love with Giovanni Doria (Montgomery Clift) while visiting her sister in Rome. After a month-long romantic adventure, she's decided she must break off the relationship and leave Rome for the sake of her marriage and her young daughter. Giovanni finds Mary at the Stazione Termini as she's waiting to leave for Paris. He pleads with her not to go, reminding her that she told him she loved him just the day before. Mary's resolve weakens as she listens to him tell of the life he's envisioned for the two of them and her child. Mary's remorse, however, can only be kept at bay for so long. Soon, she is again racked with guilt about the situation and returns to the train terminal. Vittorio De Sica directs the 1953 film, which was written by Truman Capote and Luigi Chiarini.moreless
