Into the Wild is a film that revolves around the story of Christopher McCandles (Emile Hirsch), a student who graduates top of his class at Emory University. After leaving college, Christopher abandons all earthly possessions and begins a two-year trek to Alaska. His bewildered parents, Walt (William Hurt) and Billie (Marcia Gay Harden), are not informed of this decision, nor are they kept abreast of the whereabouts of their only son. Christopher starts his journey by car but when he loses it in a flash flood, he decides to burn the rest of his cash and credit cards. He then begins to walk, hitch hike, and jump the train to Alaska. Christopher meets many memorable characters, such as Ron Franz (Hal Holbrook), who takes Christopher in as a son and the two form a close bond. Though Christopher befriends many people on his way to Alaska, he doesn't stay with them for long. After two years of traveling, he reaches Fairbanks and sets up a little home in an abandoned bus, happy and resolute that he's accomplished his mission. Watch the story of Christopher unfold in the film Into the Wild.
