I.Q. is a romantic comedy film directed by Fred Schepisi that centers on the unlikely romance of a friendly non-academic mechanic, Ed Walters (Tim Robbins), and the intellectual doctoral candidate, Catherine Boyd (Meg Ryan), a match pushed and encouraged by her uncle, the infamous Albert Einstein (Walter Matthau). Along with his impish fellow scientists, Nathan Liebknecht (Joseph Maher), Kurt Godel (Lou Jacobi), and Boris Podolsky (Gene Saks), they devise little ploys and tricks to get Ed into Catherine's sights, even going so far to turn him into a Physics idiot savant! The two though have immediate chemistry despite their differences and Catherine learns the joys of letting go while Ed experiences the more intricate aspect of education. The only hitch in their plan is the dreary psychology professor James Moreland (Stephen Fry), a stiff British man already engaged to marry Catherine. I.Q. is a funny look at the machinations of "matchmakers" and how life is too short to not at least enjoy moments of fun.
