Iranian Kidney Bargain Sale is the disturbing documentary about the organ trade in Iran. Iran is the only country in the world where selling human kidneys is legal. The film goes through the whole process from initial registration, to coverage of the surgery, to the sordid haggling over the cost of a kidney with a recipient who is in need. It describes how every ten minutes another young person goes to a kidney referral agency and begins the process. Prospective patients tell their stories of why they want or need to donate their organs. Some have come to make money to pay for medical needs. Some have to pay debts. Others are frustrated by the low payout. Dark hallways of a bustling hospital are filled with people waiting to fill out paperwork, undergo tests, or enter surgery. A woman wrestles with the possibility of having to sell her body on the street rather than selling part of her body in the hospital. For the Western world, the film is a shocking reality in places where the value of human life can be measured in dollars and cents.moreless
