Irma Vep is a film within a film that paints a picture of all the things that can go wrong when a failed director tries to remake a classic French vampire serial. Maggie Cheung (Self) is hired to play a sexy, vampire-hunting heroine. She doesn't speak a word of French, so things begin to go wrong from the moment she sets foot on set. The director, Ren'' Vidal (Jean-Pierre L''aud) begins the shoot by having Maggie fight all sorts of strange enemies that don't make any sense in the context of the movie. His disorientation worsens as the film proceeds, until none of the scenes carry any coherence and Maggie is completely unsure of what exactly she is supposed to be doing. Worse yet, she finds out that both Ren'' and Zoe (Nathalie Richard), the costume designer, have a crush on her. This results in her having to perform more and more innuendous scenes, dressed in more and more scandalous costumes. But the shoot isn't even close to finished.moreless
