Iron Mountain Trail depicts the tale of postal inspector Rex Allen (played by himself) who is sent to California in hopes of speeding up the mail system. Upon arriving and summing up the situation, Rex decides to hold a contest to decide which mail company is faster; the stagecoach run by Sam Sawyer (Forrest Taylor) or the clipper ship run by Roger McCall (Grant Withers). McCall, having run a crooked company for years and responsible for stealing a great amount of funds from the mail, sets out to sabotage Sawyer. Hell bent on making sure Sawyer does not win the mail contract, McCall sets up explosions, arson, and even murder to ruin Mr. Sawyer before he can complete the circuit. Sawyer is accused of murdering a long time rival (played by George H. Lloyd) and faces a death sentence that may end the contest for him in a permanent way. Rex Allen investigates each incident in hopes of saving Mr. Sawyer from the gallows and to make sure the right man wins the contest in the end.moreless
