It Happened Here is a retelling of World War II, with a twist, in which Germany and the other Axis powers have beat out the Allied forces. The film, being shot in documentary style and set in 1944 England, starts off where the Nazi troops have taken control with the aid of British collaborators. The black and white film follows a widowed British nurse, by the name of Pauline (Pauline Murray) who is forced to do mundane nurse work for the Nazis and eventually turns in to a collaborator herself. Nevertheless after participating in one too many of the horrifying war crimes, and seeing one too many of her old friends being arrested, the hardened British nurse finally sees her chance to speak out. Distributed by United Artists and released August 8, 1966 in the United States of America. It is a bone chilling interpretation of what could have gone horribly wrong but did not.
