Mike is to meet with an Italian lawyer, Mario Vitale (Vittorio De Sica), to finalize the legal details of Joseph's affairs. Mike learns from Mario that his brother has a nine-year old son, Nando (Marietto), and that his mother is also dead. Nando lives with his maternal aunt, Lucia Curcio (Loren). A custody battle ensues as Mike wants to enroll Nando in the American school and his aunt does not. Despite the dispute over Nando, Mike and Lucia develop an unlikely romance. Filmed on location in Italy, It Started in Naples is a warm and romantic film featuring one of screen legend Clark Gable's last performances.
