It's Alive 3: Island of the Alive is the last film in writer/director Lary Cohen's horror trilogy, following It's Alive (1974) and It Lives Again (1978). The movie begins with the growing epidemic of murderous mutant offspring from previous films sentenced by court order to quarantine on a deserted island far from civilization. Years later, a scientific team including the father of one of the infants, Steve Jarvis (Michael Moriarty), travels to the island in an operation to monitor and check on the mutant population. However, the murderous mutants quickly overcome the team and in effort to escape the group may accidentally unleash an evolutionary disaster upon the entire planet. Despite a more comedic tone than it's predecessors, Cohen injects parallels between the mutant children and myriad social issues including abortion, censorship and society's treatment of AIDS victims. Brimming with subtext and bringing natural closure to the series themes and allegory, Island of the Alive is a gory and humorous romp on a tropical island paradise inhabited by murderous mutants.moreless
