It's Showtime for the four-legged legends of the silver screen in this collection of the most memorable, suspenseful and silly moments from the many animal stars of Hollywood. Director Fred Weintraub reviews the history of movies from the silent era through the mid-1970s in this charming documentary made for both animal lovers and cinefiles. From "The Thin Man" mystery series to the musical westerns of Roy Rogers, animals have played an important and often starring part in the movies. Lassie, Flipper, and Rin-Tin-Tin have even had their own long-running series. This 1976 documentary pays tribute to all the family favorites, alongside their human co-stars Cary Grant, Mickey Rooney, James Cagney and even future president Ronald Reagan. This wide-ranging film takes a new and enjoyable look back through cinema history and includes classic highlights from films like "Bringing Up Baby," "Bedtime for Bonzo" and even the silent classics of Charlie Chaplin.
